Running a business has taught me something I didn’t expect.

You can have a product that people absolutely love and still know that it can get better.

At The Bittersweet Palate, our cheesecake is one of our bestsellers. It is something customers come back for, recommend to their friends and happily order again.

So, technically, I could leave it alone.

But I don’t.

I still find myself reading about different techniques, trying new recipes, changing small things, testing textures and experimenting with methods I haven’t tried before.

Sometimes the experiment works beautifully.

Sometimes it ends with a cheesecake sitting in my kitchen that nobody is particularly excited about.

That’s part of learning.

When you run a business, it is tempting to stick to what already works. If something is selling, why change it? If customers are happy, why experiment?

Because the moment you stop being curious, you start getting comfortable.

And comfortable can be dangerous in business.

There is always something you can learn. A better way to present your product. A simpler way to manage orders. A new marketing idea. A different way of talking to customers. A technique someone else has spent years perfecting.

You don't have to completely reinvent your business every week.

Sometimes learning something new means making one small change and seeing what happens.

For me, right now, it means trying to make a cheesecake I already love even better.

Maybe the next version will have a slightly different texture. Maybe I’ll find a technique that gives it exactly the finish I have been looking for. Maybe I’ll realise that my original recipe was already pretty close.

I won't know until I try.

And I think the same applies to every business.

Your bestseller can still be improved. Your best process can still be simplified. Your strongest skill can still be sharpened.
