If someone asks me who does my marketing, my answer is slightly unusual.

I say, “About 250 people.”

Because that’s what networking can do for you.

When I became a part of Infiniti Connects, I didn’t join thinking I was getting a marketing team. I joined a community of business owners, professionals and people who were simply willing to know each other’s businesses.

But over time, I realised something.

Every time someone in Infiniti Connects mentions my business to a friend, recommends me in a WhatsApp group, shares my post, refers a customer or simply tells someone, “I know a baker,” they are marketing my business.

And I didn't have to pay for an advertisement.

I just had to build relationships.

That's the power of networking.

We often think marketing means Instagram ads, billboards, newspaper features or spending money to get in front of more people.

Those things have their place.

But imagine having 250 people who know what you do.

Better still, imagine 250 people who know you.

They know your business, your work, what you are good at and what kind of customer you are looking for.

Suddenly, your reach is much bigger than your own social media following.

And the best part is that people trust people.

If I tell you, “Try this baker,” that's one thing.

If someone you already trust tells you, “I know a really good baker,” you are much more likely to listen.

That recommendation carries a completely different weight.

I've also realised that networking isn't about collecting visiting cards or trying to sell something every time you meet someone.

It's about becoming memorable.

It's about knowing what the person sitting across from you does.

It's about understanding their business well enough to recognise an opportunity for them, even when there is nothing in it for you.

Because someday, you might hear someone say, “I need a graphic designer.”

And suddenly you remember the person from Infiniti Connects who does exactly that.

That's networking.

You become part of each other's extended sales and marketing network without even realising it.

Of course, 250 people don't automatically become your marketing team just because you are in the same room.

Relationships have to be built.

You have to show up. You have to participate. You have to support others. You have to make an effort to know people beyond their business cards.

The more people know you, the more naturally they remember you.

And the more they trust you, the more confidently they recommend you.

That's why I don't look at Infiniti Connects as just a networking group.

I look at it as 250 people who can potentially open a door, make an introduction, send a referral, recommend my work or simply put my name in a conversation I wasn't even part of.

That's a pretty powerful marketing team.

And unlike an advertisement, this team comes with relationships.
