Dear Skin,
I don't think I have ever really said thank you.
For a long time, I would look in the mirror and only spot the things I wanted to fix. I'd focus on a new fine line, a bit of uneven color, or notice that my usual glow just wasn't there anymore. But somewhere along the way, it hit me. You have actually been right there with me through every single moment of my life.
You have soaked up the sun on wonderful vacations and carried me through the exhaustion of totally sleepless nights. You have blushed when I was excited, looked bright when I was happy, and gone a bit pale when life felt too heavy to handle. And what about those tiny lines around my eyes? Honestly, I don't think they are signs of getting old. I think they are just proof of all the times I couldn't stop laughing.
Once we hit our 40s, we tend to go to war with our skin. We spend so much time looking for creams and serums that promise to make us look young again, wipe away lines, or stop the clock. But why are we so scared of growing older?
Our skin is honestly just like a personal diary. Every single year writes a brand new page, and every page holds a piece of who we are. So today, instead of trying to wipe away my own history, I am choosing to look after it.
That just means simple, everyday care. Drinking more water, putting on sunscreen every single morning, eating well, getting enough rest, and using gentle products. It also means getting some professional help when you need an extra boost. It doesn't need to be complicated at all. It just takes a little bit of steady care and kindness.
Taking care of your skin in your 40s is not about trying to look 25 again. It is simply about taking care of the woman you see in the mirror right now.
So, dear skin, I promise to stop picking on every little change I see. I am going to listen to what you need, feed you well, keep you safe from the sun, and be incredibly patient with you. You don’t have to look flawless. You just need to be healthy, looked after, and appreciated.
At the end of the day, having beautiful skin isn't about stopping time. It’s just about learning how to shine right through it.
With love,
Anita Mishra
