Let’s be honest, designers love to hate Canva.
It’s “too simple.” “Just templated.” “No real designs.” And yet… millions of people use it every single day.
Why? Because it works.
Here’s my hot take: Canva isn’t ruining design. Bad design is ruining design.
At SPERA, we actually use it strategically.
We have not replaced our gifted designers, but we use Canva as an extra hand to make our work easier & faster.
Here's a way to look at it:
A Ferrari and a bicycle both take you from point 1 to 2.
But one is built for performance, the other for convenience.
You don’t enter a Formula 1 race on a bicycle.
We design brand identities, packaging, and campaigns from scratch including custom typography, unique layouts, and crafted concepts. That’s the Ferrari.
But if a client needs quick, on-brand social posts or editable templates, they can update themselves, then Canva is perfect for that.
The problem isn’t Canva.
The problem is using it without a strategy, without brand alignment, and design fundamentals.
A good tool in the wrong hands can produce subpar work.
So, is Canva a threat to designers?
Only if your value is just pushing pixels.
But if your value is thinking, strategising, and crafting a visual language that lasts, then Canva becomes an ally, not a competitor.
At SPERA, we believe in using every tool that helps brands look good, stay consistent, and move fast.
Because in the end, it’s not about the tool, it's about the thought process behind the design.
